rushing88I,m looking for my family castle, I heard it was on the island of Mann. I would like to have any info. thanks. my last name is Rushing.
GordonCastle Rushen is on the Isle of Man. There is no connection with your family.
It is a common assumption that if a castle shares your name, your family owned it. In some cases this is true, Castle Campbell, Castle Fraser, Castle Grant.
Not all families had castles, and many castles were owned by the crown.
Stirling Castle was owned by the Scottish Crown, not the Stirling family, similarily Edinburgh. Loudon Castle was owned by the Campbells, not the Loudons, and Renfrew by the Stewarts, not the Renfrews...

Your name may well derive from Rushen on the Isle of Man, but that may simply mean that your progenitors came from there, not that they owned the castle. http://www.castletown.org.im/heritage/castle_rushen_p1.html http://www.mcb.net/iom/crushen.html http://www.isle-of-man.com/information/crushen.htm http://www.iomguide.com/castlerushen.php http://www.manxarch.iofm.net/pccastle.htm
(that one for AJR)
There is also a Rushen Abbey.

AJRThanks Gordon. Although I've got one very similar (same view, but title at the bottom of the card, not the top), I've not seen that one.
A KnightIntetesting info on Castle Rushen from 1927 http://www.isle-of-man.com/manxnotebook/fulltext/rg1927/index.htm#contents
